Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addresses the media. Reports now say Dianna Russini is “ready to talk” about the photos scandal.

Dianna Russini is ready to publicly address the Mike Vrabel photos scandal after resigning from The Athletic, and Vrabel has now been warned with the publication of a new report on Russini’s plans.

Sources close to Russini told the Daily Mail newspaper that a range of television programs including Good Morning America and 60 Minutes has been competing to land the Russini exclusive, and that the former NFL insider is leaning toward going on the record.

The Mail sources claim that Russini does not plan to attack Vrabel, but simply to gain control of the media narrative and rebuild her career after it collapsed overnight. The report marks the first sign Russini could break her silence in full, potentially reshaping the scandal that has already rocked the Patriots organization, and could spell trouble for Vrabel.

Warning to Vrabel: Russini’s Plans Raise Job Concerns

Pro Football Talk founder Mike Florio issued the starkest assessment yet of what a Russini interview would mean for the New England Patriots‘ head coach. Speaking with Philadelphia radio host Howard Eskin in a widely circulated clip, Florio put the stakes plainly.

“We’re one news cycle away potentially, at any given moment, from him not being able to coach the team this year,” Florio said, according to NBC Sports.

Florio raised the specific scenario of Russini sitting for a major network interview.

“What if she tells her story to the Today show or 60 Minutes?” he said. “Is that the tipping point where Mike Vrabel can’t coach the Patriots this year?”

Russini and What a Tell-All Could Reveal

The scandal broke April 7, when Page Six published exclusive photographs showing Vrabel and Russini at the Ambiente resort in Sedona, Arizona, an adults-only property charging up to $2,160 a night, while both were married to other people. Vrabel dismissed the images as a routine social interaction. Russini, then the senior NFL insider at The Athletic, said the photos were taken out of context.

The Athletic launched an internal review. Russini resigned before it concluded, publishing a letter April 14 denying any conduct that undermined her journalism. A second set of photographs, taken at a New York bar in 2020 when Vrabel coached the Tennessee Titans, subsequently surfaced and widened the story.

According to a source cited by the Daily Mail, the personal toll on Russini has extended beyond her career. The insider said she has been processing the emotional loss of her relationship with Vrabel, someone she “genuinely loved,” in the words of an “insider” who spoke to the Daily Mail.

Patriots Brace for Next Chapter of the Scandal

Vrabel has continued working, attending a season-ticket-holder event where he received a standing ovation. Players including quarterback Drake Maye have publicly backed him, and the front office has given no indication his job is threatened.

But sources told the Daily Mail the organization is bracing for every scenario, including Russini going public.

“Mike and the Patriots wouldn’t be surprised one bit if she eventually talks about it in a TV appearance,” a source said, according to the Daily Mail. “And he will likely do the same.”

Radio host Jon “Stugotz” Weiner, who spoke privately with Russini, signaled she will speak eventually.

“It’s her story to tell on her timeline,” Weiner said, as quoted by Awful Announcing‘s Sam Neumann.

That timeline, sources now indicate, is growing shorter.
