The New Orleans Saints didn’t exactly stand out in 2025, but they put together a strong finish to the campaign that has folks believing they can take a step forward when they return to action in 2026. The Saints think that they have found their quarterback of the future, Tyler Shough, which has led the front office to work on upgrading the offense around him.

Perhaps the biggest addition the team has made in this department saw them select Arizona State Sun Devils wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tyson will look to form a star tandem with Chris Olave, but first, he needed to get his contract situation sorted out. The good news for New Orleans is that it didn’t take very long for the team to take care of this important piece of business.

Even though their offense was missing some key pieces down the stretch last season, Shough showed himself well during his time on the field as a rookie (221/327, 2,384 YDS, 10 TD, 6 INT, 45 CAR, 186 YDS, 3 TD). With Shough proving he’s capable of winning games for New Orleans, the team had to surround him with more talent this offseason.

That’s precisely why the front office selected Tyson in the draft. A talented playmaker who can rip off a big gain anytime he touches the football, Tyson was widely believed to be one of the top prospects in the 2026 draft class. He only played in nine games for Arizona State last season, but he still ended up hauling in 61 receptions for 711 yards and nine total touchdowns when all was said and done.

If Tyson can hit the ground running, he and Olave could quickly become one of the most effective wide receiver duos in the league. The first step towards getting Tyson in action involved signing him to his rookie contract, and he ended up putting pen to paper on a four-year, $32.5 million deal on Friday.

“Saints first-round pick Jordyn Tyson signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed, $32.5 million deal,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X.

Saints Hoping Jordyn Tyson Can Immediately Become a Star

Tyson was more productive for Arizona State in 2024 (75 REC, 1,101 YDS, 10 TD), but he also played in three more games and wasn’t battling injuries when he was on the field. Transitioning from college to the pros is never easy to do, but given what he managed to do for the Sun Devils, there’s good reason to believe Tyson can become an immediate contributor for New Orleans.

With Travis Etienne Jr. and Alvin Kamara leading the way at running back, and Juwan Johnson factoring into the mix at tight end, Shough is going to have weapons to work with in 2026. He will also benefit from having an entire offseason to prepare for being the team’s starting quarterback. New Orleans still has to grow collectively as a team, but if all the pieces of the puzzle come together, it could be a sneaky dangerous group to keep tabs on in the NFC South division.
