Giants' head coach Brian Daboll recently addressed his controversial "medical people" comments

Three games into the 2025 season, not much has gone right for the New York Giants. They have lost each of their first three games, two of which were particularly ugly, leading to first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart being thrown into the fire by head coach Brian Daboll, with the veteran Russell Wilson being sent to the bench.

As if Daboll needed anything else on his plate, he found himself embroiled in a controversy on Thursday over comments he made regarding the Giants‘ “medical people.” Unsurprisingly, Daboll was asked about these comments on Friday, leading to him addressing the situation and providing further clarity on what he meant.

Things have rarely ever gone according to plan for Daboll since he took over as the Giants‘ head coach in 2022. While he immediately led New York to the divisional round of the playoffs in 2022, the team has won just nine games since then, and with each loss, calls for him to get fired only grow louder.

While Daboll has made his fair share of mistakes during his time in charge of the Giants, the construction of the team’s roster certainly hasn’t made his life easy by any means. Case in point, after moving on from Daniel Jones, who is on fire with the Indianapolis Colts, New York didn’t really have an answer at quarterback, and while there’s hope surrounding Dart, they still don’t know if he’s going to pan out or not.

Daboll is trying to do everything he can to give his team a competitive advantage, and sometimes, that involves practicing outdoors in inclement weather. When explaining his decision to practice on wet fields earlier in the week, Daboll seemingly took a shot at the team by using air quotes when referencing “medical people” backing his decision. With the controversy reaching a fever pitch, Daboll explained that he meant nothing with his odd comments.

“We have a group, it’s not all medical people should I say,” Daboll said when speaking to reporters. “There’s a groundskeeper on it, there’s a head equipment manager on it, and anytime there’s a certain type of weather I’ll say, ‘Hey, I’d like to do this,’ and there’s about seven people that talk about it … There’s a fair amount of communication.”

Controversy always seems to surround the Giants, so much so that stuff like this becomes the biggest news story of the day. It’s just another issue that isn’t particularly important that Daboll has to worry about, which ultimately makes winning football games, which is already difficult enough for New York, even more challenging.

Speaking of which, the Giants are still looking for their first win of the season, as they are now counting on Dart to help them get back on track. That’s going to be easier said than done, though, as New York has a tough matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on its hands in Week 4. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and all eyes will be on Dart to see how he fares in his first NFL start.
