This year, the New York Giants found themselves with an array of early picks in the NFL Draft. They walked away with a slew of exciting young players, and some appear to be starting off their professional careers on a strong note.

Before OTAs get underway later this month, the Giants held a brief rookie minicamp. Among those with a lot of eyes on them was No. 5 pick Arvell Reese. When asked about how the defensive standout has looked thus far, head coach John Harbaugh raved about how he’s carried himself thus far.

“Picks things up really quick,” Harbaugh said of the No. 5 overall pick. “Very serious minded. Very diligent about the assignments. I don’t think he’s got one assignment wrong throughout the two days, which is great to see.”

Reese is coming off an impressive showing at Ohio State, and now will attempt to assert himself as a focal point of the Giants’ defense moving forward.

John Harbaugh Raves About Giants WR Malachi Fields

Another notable rookie in action for the Giants during minicamp was wide receiver Malachi Fields. New York traded up in to the third round to nab the Notre Dame standout, and the move already looks to be yielding positive dividends.

While speaking with the media about Fields, Harbaugh praised the young wideout for his route-running and catching.

“Malachi, a bunch of plays,” said Harbaugh. “Did you see him on the slants today? He made every catch yesterday. Made one high catch over the top of the corner one time. Happy with all those guys.”

Given the current outlook of the Giants’ WR corps, Fields could find himself with a prominent role in the offseason early on his rookie year. Veteran Darius Slayton is currently sidelined following surgery on his core, leaving a void to be filled alongside QB Jaxson Dart. If Fields can continue to impress in the coming months, he just might slowly climb up New York’s depth chart.

John Harbaugh Also Making Strong Impression on Giants Rookies

When the Giants brought in Harbaugh to be the franchise’s new head coach, they viewed him as someone who could instill a strong culture for a young team on the rise. As the ramp-up for his first season in the Big Apple continues, he has received high praise from numerous players.

While speaking with the media following a day of minicamp action, Reese was asked his initial thoughts on Harbaugh. He had high praise for his new coach, citing his strong ability to connect with players.

“He’s a great coach, he relates to his players,” Reese said of Harbaugh. “I feel like he one of those coaches who take the time to get to know his players. And I feel like that’s real important when it come to building a team that you want to have a real brotherhood. I feel like coach Harbaugh a great coach so far.”

Though still in the early days of his Giants tenure, it doesn’t look like Harbaugh has had any issues winning over the locker room.
