The New York Giants went sniffing around the Baltimore Ravens for another running back — just not the one everyone wants.
With the Ravens turning back suitors for NFL All-Pro running back Derrick Henry, the Giants turned their attention to another Ravens running back and former protege of Giants head coach John Harbaugh — veteran running back Justice Hill.
The NFL trade deadline is November 10.
“In recent weeks, speculation had built that Baltimore might be willing to deal (Henry),” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on Saturday morning. “There were suggestions that his two former head coaches, John Harbaugh in New York and Mike Vrabel in New England, could be interested, though there is no direct evidence that either coach inquired about Henry. However, Baltimore is said never to have considered dealing Henry before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline. A league source told ESPN that the one Ravens running back that the Giants inquired about was Justice Hill.”
Harbaugh coached the Ravens for 18 years before he was fired in January and hired by the Giants, who are 4-2-1 and alone in first place in the NFC East Division for the first time since 2015.
John Harbaugh Drafted Justice Hill in 2019
Harbaugh and the Ravens selected Hill in the 5th round (No. 113 overall) out of Oklahoma State in the 2019 NFL Draft after he was a 3-time All-Big 12 selection.
In three seasons at Oklahoma State, Hill rushed for 3,539 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Hill, 5-foot-9 and 198 pounds, cemented his draft status by running the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds and posting the highest vertical leap at the NFL Scouting Combine: 40 inches.
Justice Hill: Steady Contributor for Ravens
Hill has been a steady backup running back for the Ravens throughout his career, save for missing the entire 2021 season with a torn Achilles tendon.
In recent years, Hill has seen an uptick in production. He rushed for a career-high 383 yards and 3 touchdowns as Henry’s backup in 2023 and had a career-high 384 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in 2024.
Hill has been impressive at making the most of his opportunities when he gets them—he has a whopping 4.7 yards per carry average in his career. He also has valuable playoff experience with the Ravens, including eight games in five seasons.
Hill will have approximately $15 million in career earnings following the 2026 season.
