Garrett Wilson Goes After Stephen A. Smith for Polarizing Jets QB Draft Take

Garrett Wilson isn’t helping the New York Jets on the field, but he is sure defending them off the field.

On an episode of “First Take” on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith went on a rant destroying the Jets and explained why Oregon quarterback Dante Moore should go back to school to avoid going to New York.

“I’d eat something to provoke myself to have food poisoning where I’m garbage before I play for the New York Jets. I’m telling you right now, whatever I could do to be alive and be okay in the end, but to ruin their thoughts of ever wanting me on their roster, I would do. Damn it, I would go back to college before I’d play for the Jets. They are a football atrocity. They are awful. I mean, straight garbage,” Stephen A. Smith ranted on Wednesday, January 7.

“I am a black man who has consistently [pushed] for opportunities for black coaches throughout the years. I have done that. It has gotten a lot better than it was in the past. It hurts for me to say this, okay? Ain’t no way in hell Aaron Glenn should still be the head coach of the New York Jets,” Stephen A. Smith continued.

Wilson came across this on social media and chose to respond.

“Damn, u gotta be a real sell out n above all a square to be on ESPN nowadays. Used to love that show,” Wilson posted.

He then followed up by saying, “@elonmusk keep it all on my feed bra.”

Naturally, Jets fans were excited to see their star player defend their squad on social media.

Where Is the Consistency With These Takes?

Are the Jets terrible? Yes. Have they been bad for a long time? Also yes. Are they the only bad team in the NFL? Absolutely not.

Where is the outcry for whichever quarterback is tasked with going to the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft?

Over the last six years, the Raiders have had six head coaches. That group includes Pete Carroll, Antonio Pierce, Josh McDaniels, Rich Bisaccia, and Jon Gruden. The last two of which were one-and-done.

The last time the Raiders selected a quarterback in the first round was JaMarcus Russell with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007. He is considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

This isn’t meant to be a Raiders bash session. However, Las Vegas has the No. 1 overall pick and has been just as dysfunctional, if not more so, than the Jets — yet no one is complaining about a quarterback potentially ending up there.

As a matter of fact, draft expert Todd McShay said the opposite. Instead of potentially avoiding the Raiders, McShay urged Oregon quarterback Dante Moore to reach out to Las Vegas to figure out if he is going to be the top pick. If he found out that he wasn’t going to be, McShay told him to go back to school to avoid the Jets.
