A former New York Jets draft pick has landed on his feet.
On Tuesday, August 26, the Jets waived defensive back Jarrick Bernard-Converse ahead of final roster cuts. He was subject to the waiver wire system, and he got claimed.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic confirmed the news and revealed that JBC is headed to the Cleveland Browns.
“The only Jet to be claimed,” Rosenblatt added.
A Talented Former Jets Player Getting Another NFL Opportunity
Bernard-Converse, 25, joined the NFL as the No. 204 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft.
Across his two seasons with the Jets, he appeared in 15 games, but he never started a game.
JBC is a versatile player. In college, he played safety, and when the Jets selected him, they immediately converted him to cornerback.
Then, head coach Robert Saleh explained that it is “hard” to find corners in this league.
NFL analyst Will Parkinson “assumed” Bernard-Converse was going to be claimed on waivers shortly after the news of his release was made public. Parkinson said he was told that if he had cleared waivers, the team wanted him back on the practice squad.
Malachi Corley Goes Unclaimed on Waivers
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
A year ago, Malachi Corley was the No. 65 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He was the first pick of the third round, and if the Jets had their druthers, they would have been able to trade up for him in the second round.
Fast forward a year, and Corley was waived by the new Jets regime. At the beginning of the offseason, that would have been a surprising result. An even more surprising result? Corley wasn’t even claimed on waivers, making him a true unrestricted free agent.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,” Ferris Bueller once said.
A Good Lesson for Jets Fans in the Future
Ahead of final roster cuts, there is a lot of freaking out that occurs among fans on social media.
Who are we going to cut? What if that player gets claimed on waivers? That would be devastating.
Much of the time, it is much ado about nothing. The inserted players you thought would get claimed didn’t, and then they returned to the practice squad.
That doesn’t always happen, insert Bernard-Converse, but most of the time, players on your team you overrate.
A message for the future: R-E-L-A-X.
