The Baltimore Ravens had to make a tough call in leaving cornerback Robert Longerbeam off the 53-man roster.
Now, he’s taking his talents to the NFC East.
“Sources: The Eagles are signing former Ravens CB Robert Longerbeam,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account on Tuesday. “Baltimore was very high on Longerbeam, a former 6th-round pick, but had to waive him because of a very deep CB room. He chose to look for a team where he had a better chance to get on the field … The Eagles had been quietly canvassing the league for another CB in recent weeks, and now sign one in Robert Longerbeam, who is fully healthy after suffering a torn patellar tendon last season.”
“Ravens were interesting in getting Longerbeam back after he cleared waivers, but he wanted to head elsewhere,” The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec wrote on X.
“The Eagles have also signed former Rutgers cornerback Robert Longerbeam to practice squad,” Eagles reporter Cayden Steele wrote on his official X account. “Another quality dart throw. He reportedly had a good training camp in his second season with the Ravens. He missed his rookie season with a knee injury. Kelee Ringo, Jonathan Jones and Riq Woolen will be free agents next offseason. Longerbeam could compete for a backup spot next summer.”
Longerbeam Made ‘Strong Impression’ in OTAs
Longerbeam made a “strong impression” in OTAs, according to Ravens insider Cassie Cherigo.
“With some of the veteran cornerbacks out, the younger players in the secondary got more reps,” Cherigo said on May 23. “Robert Longerbeam, who was sidelined for his rookie year with a knee injury, took full advantage, nabbing an interception and a pass breakup. Longerbeam will look to carve out a role in the talented group over the summer.”
Longerbeam wasn’t on the 53-man roster prediction from Zrbiec, who called it the “toughest call” on the entire roster before the final cuts on August 30.
“This is, by far, the most difficult position to whittle down,” Zrbiec wrote. “Kone and Longerbeam, both 2025 sixth-round picks, have played well enough to secure spots. Marquise Robinson and Oruwariye have been pretty good, too.”
Blazing 40-Yard Dash Time Solidified Draft Stock
Longerbeam, 5-foot-11 and 174 pounds, was a 3-year starter at Rutgers and a 2-time All-Big Ten selection, including leading the team with 11 pass deflections and 2 interceptions as a senior in 2024.
He solidified his draft stock by running the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, with the Ravens selecting him in the 6th round (No. 212 overall).
