The Philadelphia Eagles and their passionate fan base will have – and understandably so – been disappointed with the team having initially lost out on their bid to secure All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby, who was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens for the 14th overall pick in 2026 and the team’s first round pick in 2027.

However, according to the Raiders via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Ravens have backed out of said trade, which will now not be going through.

“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time.” The statement from Las Vegas read.

Why Did the Maxx Crosby Trade Fall Through?

Crosby, according to his Instagram, was in Baltimore on Tuesday undergoing his physical, and initial reports at the moment seem to lean towards that being the core reason for the trade falling through.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe claimed that it “has to be related to his torn meniscus”, whilst The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that “Maxx Crosby did not pass his physical today, per sources.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also alluded to the fact that the situation looked to be related to Crosby’s knee injury.

“Welp: It’s not just players that can change their minds. Teams can, too. But clearly there is a reason, and Maxx Crosby still had to take and pass a physical coming off a significant knee injury.” Schefter wrote on X.

The Eagles Now Back in the Crosby Sweepstakes?

Given that Crosby failed his physical with the Ravens, there is clearly some worry from the organization that he either has a significant, elevated risk of re-injury or will not manage to play at the same game-wrecking level we are accustomed to seeing.

Philadelphia were one of the many teams looking to add the 28 year old five-time Pro Bowler, with the organization still thin at the edge rusher/outside linebacker position heading into the 2026 season.

The Eagles have limited cap space at this point in time, but some restructures to current contracts on the books, alongside pushing some of Crosby’s cap hit into future years could very well make a deal possible.

The team could also pivot to another elite edge-rushing option, Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson is also coming off a late-season injury, like Crosby – although he is 2.5 years the former fourth round pick’s senior and only managed to play 7 games and produce 4 sacks in 2025.

Still, when healthy, Hendrickson is at a similar level to Crosby in terms of game-impact, and numerically often exceeds his him in key categories like sacks – Hendrickson led the league in total sacks between 2023 and 2024 with 35 across the two seasons.

An Eagles pursuit will ultimately depend on how serious Crosby’s injury is moving forward, and how his knee is evaluated by other teams in the NFL. If only one or two teams clear him medically – and one of them is Philadelphia – expect General Manager Howie Roseman to pounce.
