Every fan in the City of Brotherly Love just wants to hear something positive about the Philadelphia Eagles‘ offense.

After watching Kevin Patullo’s system fail in a post-Super Bowl world during the 2025 NFL season, there is plenty of hope in the first-year offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion.

The Eagles put the system to the test with a group of backups last weekend against the Baltimore Ravens, and the results were far from inspiring. The Eagles could barely move the ball, and they didn’t score their total of one touchdown until the third-string quarterback entered the game.

This week, the offense had two days of practice action going against a stellar New England Patriots defense. According to two insiders, optimism is still lacking.

Brooks Kubena and Zach Berman of The Athletic answered whether they felt better or worse about the offense after the practices. They both went with the latter.

“The run game’s success was inconsistent across both days against the Patriots. Elijah Moore caught a deep touchdown in Wednesday’s team drills, but explosive passing plays have been few and far between in training camp. Dontayvion Wicks showed impressive separation in one-on-one drills, but it didn’t translate into major plays during red zone and two-minute drills,” Kubena explained

As for Berman, he leans “slightly worse.”

It doesn’t help that the Eagles’ top receiving target for the past four seasons was wearing the other team’s uniform and dominating the Eagles’ star-studded secondary.

The early reviews about the offense don’t sound great, but there is a key factor that should cut the Eagles some slack.

There Are Key Injuries In Play

The Eagles started camp with DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon catching passes from Jalen Hurts. The former had a strong start to camp, while the latter was still learning the ropes of NFL training camp.

Both of them suffered hamstring injuries and haven’t been able to scrimmage in roughly two weeks.

Considering Smith is Jalen Hurts’ No. 1 target, his lack of presence on the offense will obviously cause a major hit.

While Lemon hasn’t shown much this offseason, the Eagles are still banking on their 2026 first-rounder to play a key role in the slot.
