Now that the Philadelphia Eagles have a new offensive coordinator running the show, the rest of the NFL might be wondering if the league’s most controversial play will stay on Philly’s playcalling sheet.
According to first-year coordinator Sean Mannion, the Tush Push isn’t going anywhere.

Meeting with the media prior to Saturday’s (August 8) practice, Mannion was asked about the controversial quarterback sneak.
“[It will] will still be a part of what we do,” the offensive coordinator told reporters, according to PHLY’s EJ Smith. “We’re going to lean into it.”
Just two seasons ago, the Eagles leaned heavily on the Tush Push in short-yardage situations. The play was frustrating to defenses, as they rarely stopped it.
Ahead of the 2026 NFL season, the league considered banning the play. Some league figures argued that the play was a safety concern, despite a lack of evidence to back it up.
There were enough votes to keep the conversation going in the future, but the play wasn’t taken away for the 2025 season. The Eagles would continue to utilize it, but they weren’t nearly as effective as they were in the past.
According to a report, the Eagles were successful running the play just 64% of the time last year. The Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Houston Texans all ran the play successfully throughout the year.
During the 2026 offseason, the play was no longer as controversial. The league did not revisit the conversation of potentially banning it.
As a result, the Eagles will continue to run it, with hopes of having better success this time around.
