The Philadelphia Eagles made a series of roster moves ahead of their second preseason game against the New England Patriots. The veteran wide receiver Johnny Wilson was among the odd men out.

The 25-year-old pass-catcher was waived by the team. Anybody in the NFL could’ve added him, but the wideout officially cleared waivers.

Therefore, Wilson is back with the Eagles and sent to the injured reserve, as the team had hoped.

It’s been a rough go for the Eagles’ young receiver. He made his NFL debut in 2024, appearing in 16 games,

Wilson caught just five passes as a rookie, totaling 38 yards. He scored one touchdown throughout the year.

The Eagles went on to appear in four postseason matchups, including the Super Bowl. Wilson didn’t produce any stats during the playoffs, but he managed to add Super Bowl champion to his resume.

Ahead of his sophomore effort with the Eagles, Wilson suffered knee and ankle injuries. He needed surgery last August, which caused the Eagles to officially rule out Wilson for the entire 2025 NFL season.

With Wilson’s knee continuing to bother him deep into August 2026, the young veteran was cut from the roster and now lands back on the injured reserve.

Howie Roseman’s front office believed in Wilson coming out of Florida State.

During the 2023 season, billed as Wilson’s junior year, he appeared in 10 games. Wilson caught 41 passes for 617 yards and two touchdowns.

He finished his college career with eight total touchdowns and 1,757 yards.

Wilson’s NFL career hasn’t been off to a great start, but he should still get a chance to improve his stock when he finally gets healthy again. In the meantime, the Eagles are going to be on the hunt for receiver help.
