Pittsburgh Steelers veteran Jalen Ramsey delivered a clear message on Joey Porter Jr. needing to get paid.

It’s not clear whether cornerback Joey Porter Jr. will get a contract extension from the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 2026 regular season begins. But just one outcome in the contract standoff will be acceptable for veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

That’s Porter getting a new deal.

Ramsey made that clear to reporters Monday when he spoke to the media upon returning from the PUP list.

“We need the whole secondary out there,” Ramsey said, via 93.7 The Fan. “They gotta pay Joey Porter.”

Ramsey addressed Porter’s situation later on as well.

“I’m overly in Joey’s corner,” Ramsey added. “Joey needs to get compensated for being a valuable part of this secondary and a valuable part of this defense and team.”

Porter is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Steelers have signed three other players to extensions who the team drafted in 2023, which was Porter’s draft class, but not the starting cornerback.

In 2025, Porter posted 52 combined tackles, 14 pass defenses and one interception in 14 games. The 26-year-old cornerback has started 41 games over the past three seasons.
