Former Steelers’ Russell Wilson at Center of Potential NFL Investigation

Comments from former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson could lead to the NFL investigating the New York Giants.

Aaron Rodgers gave Pittsburgh sports fans quite a few reasons to feel good about the decision the Pittsburgh Steelers made to sign him instead of bringing back fellow quarterback Russell Wilson last offseason. This week, Wilson may have provided another reason Rodgers was the right choice.

While speaking to reporters on his team’s locker room clean out day, Wilson indicated he played during Week 2 this past season with a serious hamstring injury. The New York Giants, though, didn’t disclose any injury for Wilson prior to facing the Dallas Cowboys the second weekend of the 2025 regular season.

“You know, I played that (Week 2) game, you know, I tore my hamstring on Friday in practice — the last play of practice,” Wilson said, via Reuters.com. “And I had a grade two [tear]. I couldn’t tell anybody.

“I had to go and play on it just because I knew the circumstance, I had to play on it, no matter what.”

Those circumstances were if Wilson allowed first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart to replace him, via injury or otherwise, he may not get his job back.

Wilson lost his job anyway and is not likely to return to the Giants next season. But his comment could be a huge lump of coal for New York to begin 2026.

“An investigation by the NFL into who knew what about Wilson’s injury is likely forthcoming, in part because of the increasing concerns about inside information related to gambling scandals in other leagues,” wrote Reuters.

Any NFL investigation could lead to disciplinary action against the Giants.
