The San Francisco 49ers have added veteran help on offense this offseason, but they could still look to strengthen the defense with another experienced addition. With a roster built to win now and several key players on the older side of their prime, urgency remains high in San Francisco.
That puts the 49ers in a position to stay aggressive, especially if there are available players who can fill gaps and improve the defense heading into the 2026 NFL season. One of the veteran names in the speculation mill is Joey Bosa, but now he might not be the only one.
Moreover, with the Indianapolis Colts releasing veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II on May 7, could the 49ers be a landing spot? NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco shared his thoughts on the veteran potentially being on the Niners’ radar.
“I suppose it could happen, but I don’t see the fit,” Maiocco wrote in response to a comment made on a May 10 video from his YouTube channel. “He’s a nickel back. The 49ers have Upton Stout. And if he shifts to safety, he’d be learning a new full-time spot entering his 10th NFL season.
“If I were the 49ers, I’d roll with Stout, Mustapha, Sigle and Brown. But if he wants to sign with no guarantees and fight for a roster spot, that would work.”
During his time with the Colts, Moore started 111 games, recording 21 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles.
49ers Land Strong Kenny Moore II Take on Potential Fit
While Maiocco believes a potential Niners move for Moore would come under the right circumstances, such as the player wanting to come in and fight for a roster spot, FanSided’s Alicia de Artola believes that San Francisco would be an ideal place for the veteran to continue his NFL career.
“The San Francisco 49ers added Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs to the secondary in depth roles this offseason,” de Artola wrote in her May 7 article. “There’s still room to upgrade on Upton Stout, who handled slot duties as a rookie in 2025. Stout wasn’t bad in his debut, but he’s not the finished article. For the 49ers to make a Super Bowl push, they need better than ‘not bad.’
“Moore would elevate that secondary with his coverage ability and run stopping. Moreover, his veteran precence could make a difference in what is a relatively green back five. Deommodore Lenoir is the oldest projected starter in the bunch at 26.”
Veteran Edge Rusher Would Like to Play for the Niners
Moore and Bosa aren’t the only names in the speculation mill for the 49ers. Recently, on the May 5 edition of “Up & Adams,” former Baltimore Ravens standout Kyle van Noy expressed his desire to play alongside 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.
“I really would like to play with my little brother, Fred Warner, with the Niners,” van Noy told Adams. “I think they’ve got something cooking over there; I know they love Joey Bosa because of Nick and all that [and] I get that. But I would love to play with my little brother. That’s my guy. And I think they’ve got something cooking over there.”
