The San Francisco 49ers‘ divisional round playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks might have been the last game for Jauan Jennings. The Niners wideout is a free agent and will be able to test the open market for a significant payday.

Jennings had 55 catches for 643 yards and scored nine touchdowns in 15 games for the 49ers this season, per StatMuse. With the situation regarding Brandon Aiyuk and the departure of Deebo Samuel last offseason, Jennings took advantage of his increased role with San Francisco.

Ahead of free agency opening up in a few weeks after the Super Bowl, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco shared the latest regarding Jennings’ future with the 49ers.

“[The 49ers’] top free agent is Jauan Jennings, but there’s no guarantee that Jauan Jennings will be back on the team after the sides could not come to a contract resolution on a long‑term extension before the season,” Maiocco said on his YouTube channel on Jan. 18.

“You know, the numbers that I heard that Jauan Jennings and his representation were asking for—I don’t fault the 49ers, and I can see why there wasn’t a long‑term extension signed.

“So now that he is in line to hit the open market in mid‑March, the team can have an idea of what other teams value him, and then the 49ers can play off of that. Now that didn’t work out so well with Dre Greenlaw But Jennings is definitely somebody the 49ers would like to have back.”

49ers Insider Gives George Kittle Update

Another storyline for the offseason will be George Kittle’s recovery from a torn Achilles tendon sustained in the wild-card round win over the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Niners’ 2025 season, the focus now turns to whether the veteran will be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 campaign.

“Kittle’s return is a little bit tenuous just because of the nature of the Achilles injury, and you know, will he be ready for Week 1, there’s definitely a possibility,” Maiocco added. “Talked to a doctor, an orthopedic surgeon, who said it’s very possible that he could be back when the season starts.”

If the 49ers pursue a tight end either in the draft or free agency, perhaps it will allow them to take their time with Kittle and not rush him for Week 1 to ensure that the player is fully healthy once he’s ready to go for the 2026 season.

49ers’ Fred Warner Opens Up About 2025 Season

A player who will likely be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season is Fred Warner. Moreover, had the Niners reached the NFC title game, there was talk about Warner returning for that game. Nonetheless, he now has a full offseason to recover and get ready for next season.

After the loss to the Seahawks, Warner shared his thoughts on this season and his future while speaking with the media.

“I do not plan on retiring anytime soon,” Warner said after the 49ers fell to the Seahawks. “That was about as close as the feeling you’re going to get of being away from the game. It was fun to see the guys fight, and a lot of young players stepping up into different roles.

“I’m sure they weren’t expected to play this early in as meaningful minutes as they did. I think it was super beneficial for a lot of the guys to have played and played well for us this year to go into next year on a great foot.”
