The Seattle Seahawks have made a Sam Darnold announcement ahead of their trip to the Super Bowl against the Patriots.

On Sunday, January 25, quarterback Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks, headed up by second year head coach Mike Macdonald, solidified their trip to the big game. It’s really incredible to see how far Macdonald has taken this team in just two short years of taking over. While the NFL is an offensive-minded league, the Seahawks took a chance on Macdonald, a defensive-minded coach, and that risk is paying off in a good way.

The Seattle Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game, and that clinched their spot in Super Bowl LX. Now, the team, which is No. 1 place in the NFC and NFL West, will take on the New England Patriots in the big game on Sunday, February 8.

” I’m incredibly proud of our team. I’m happy for the 12s, for our city,” Macdonald said after the win over the Rams. “What an atmosphere. Just to be able to take it in after and understand what our team has been able to do up to this point and how they’ve done it, we’re just blessed. Just really blessed that we got a heck of a group and a great organization and owner and the best fans. So it’s humbling, too, and just pretty awesome.”

Darnold added, “Great team win. Great team win. We came out, did exactly what we wanted to do on offense. I thought that was a great first touchdown drive, and then kind of hit a lull in the second, third quarter. Got things going a little bit there in between those lulls I guess. But just a total complete team win.”

Now, the Seattle Seahawks have announced some special news about Darnold leading up to the final moment.

Seattle Seahawks Make Sam Darnold Announcement

On Monday, January 26, the Seattle Seahawks reposted an announcement from NFL on Prime Video stating that Darnold has made NFL history. The signal-caller is the first starting quarterback from the class of 2018 to reach the Super Bowl, according to NFL research.

“If Darnold wins the Superbowl, I think there’s going to have to be a movie,” one follower said on X. “You mean the guy everyone but the Hawks gave up on? Heh,” another one said.

That wasn’t all. Darnold is heading to the big game, which means that he’s going to be busy for the next two weeks. So, he won’t be able to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as playing in the Pro Bowl. It’s a small price to pay for going all the way, right?

On Monday, January 26, the Seattle Seahawks also announced that Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions will take the place of Darnold in the 2026 Pro Bowl events.

Following the win on Sunday, January 25, Darnold raved about his teammates, stating, “It’s great. It’s great that I feel that support not with only their words but just with how everyone treats each other in the building. There is a lot of respect that goes around the building. Everyone respects the work we all put into this great game.”

He added, “I’m just happy to be a part of this team, this group and this coaching staff. I’m really happy to be here, happy to be in this position. I’m just going to continue to do the best that I can to put this team in positions to win football games.”

Darnold ended the 2025-26 season passing for 4,048 yards, notching 25 touchdowns and having just 14 interceptions, with a 67.7% completion rate.
