The Seattle Seahawks fell 19-16 to the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 23 at Nissan Stadium. Moreover, it was a terrible night for backup QB Jalen Milroe, who will likely remain QB3 behind Drew Lock.
Milroe took the field in the second half after Lock played the first half as starting QB Sam Darnold didn’t play. Lock did go 12-for-14 on his pass attempts for 103 passing yards, one touchdown, and a passer rating of 121.1. As a result, Milroe needed to come out and match this production.
Nonetheless, that wouldn’t be the case. Milroe went 6-for-11 on his pass attempts for 52 passing yards, and he did have one rush attempt for 16 yards. Still, it was the turnovers that would haunt Milroe as he recorded two interceptions, was sacked twice, and posted a passer rating of 27.7.
Following Milroe’s tough night, Lock issued a strong message to his teammate to keep his spirits up ahead of the final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 28.
“Jalen and I have a lot of good talks,” Lock told reporters postgame. “I think for him, the thing I have experienced in my career is just continuing to find ways to get to the next play. Just clear your head, no matter if it was your fault or somebody else’s fault. And he does a great job of that.”

Moreover, Lock noted that criticism comes with the territory of being a quarterback. However, he notes that it’s a team effort and that 10 other players out on the field also need to do their jobs for the signal-caller to be successful.
“I think that’s just the constant reminder that we play a special position,” Lock added. “We always have the ball in our hands, so everybody’s looking at us. It’s also 10 guys around us, and we all need to be on the same page and executing at the same level.
“Sometimes that doesn’t happen, and you learn lessons as a young quarterback, even as an old quarterback. I’m sure Sam learned lessons last year. It’s just about continuing to get better, moving on to the next play and perfecting your process.”
Jalen Milroe Did Receive Praise Leading Up to Titans Game
Recently, Seattle Sports’ Michael Bumpus shared his evaluation of Milroe from the first preseason contest against the Dallas Cowboys, in which the Seahawks also lost.
The 23-year-old went 5-for-8 on his pass attempts, resulting in 36 passing yards. However, Milroe made an impact with his legs, finishing with 36 rushing yards on five carries, including a 20-yard run.
“He’s gotten better,” Bumpus said in an Aug. 17 video from Seattle Sports. “He really has. I feel good about Milroe and where he was or where he is after that first game. “Obviously, you want to see improvement, but for what I’ve been able to observe, for the opportunities that he’s gotten, I’m not deterred. I’m not looking at him and thinking he’s a waste, get him out of here. I’m, if anything, more intrigued.”
Milroe will look to at least end the preseason on a positive note in the final game against the Chiefs.
