Seahawks' general manager John Schneider revealed Jody Allen's message to him in the wake of her decision to put the franchise up for sale

The good times are rolling for the Seattle Seahawks. And yet, while they just won Super Bowl LX earlier this month, the work never ends for the team. Head coach Mike Macdonald has had to quickly rebuild his coaching staff after losing offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to the Las Vegas Raiders, and general manager John Schneider has begun preparing for free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.

Hovering over all of this is franchise owner Jody Allen‘s decision to put the franchise up for sale. Allen’s decision was the wish of her late brother, Paul Allen, and while the process will likely take some time, what the future holds for the Seahawks is somewhat unknown. And yet, according to Schneider, that isn’t going to result in the team’s offseason plans changing.

Jody Allen to John Schneider — ‘Let’s Go for It’

Back in 1997, Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks, and he served as their owner until he died in 2018. That led to Jody taking over as the chair of the team, a position she has held for the past nine years. As per Paul’s wishes, though, Jody has decided to sell the team, with the proceeds being donated to philanthropic causes.

The sale and purchase of major sports franchises is a complicated process, thanks in large part to the fact that these teams are now worth billions of dollars. So while it will take some time for Allen to actually find a proper buyer for the Seahawks, nobody knows what the future will look like for the team, simply because nobody knows who its next owner will be.

That led some fans to be concerned about what the team’s offseason strategy could look like. With a question mark at the owner position, could the front office be more tepid with its spending in an attempt to factor in the unknown? Schneider understands where that train of thought is coming from, but after speaking with Allen, he revealed he’s got the green light to attack the offseason as he normally would.

“I had a great talk with Jody the other night, and she’s like, ‘Let’s go for it. Let’s rip it,'” Schneider said when speaking to reporters at the 2026 NFL Draft Combine. “It’s just business as usual for us.”

The sale of the Seahawks’ franchise comes at an odd time, as the team just won a Super Bowl. However, that isn’t going to interfere with Seattle’s quest to run it back in 2026. Schneider has some big decisions to make this offseason, but per Allen’s comments, he’s going to have the freedom to act as he sees fit, even with the franchise being up for sale.

So far, all the right things have been said, but actions speak louder than words, meaning it will surely be interesting to see how the team operates over the next few months. Schneider has earned a reputation for being one of the top general managers in the business, though, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him push all the right buttons once again this offseason.
