Rashid Shaheed has been a difference maker for the Seattle Seahawks since arriving in a midseason trade with the New Orleans Saints.

In Nov. 2024, Seattle sent a 2026 fourth- and fifth-round pick to New Orleans, and so far this move is paying off with the Seahawks one win away from the Super Bowl. Nonetheless, Shaheed is a looming free agent as he can test the market in mid-March.

On Jan. 22, NFL analyst Marc Ross noted 11 looming free agents who are deserving of a payday, one of them being Shaheed.

“I loved the midseason trade that sent Shaheed to Seattle, and it’s obvious why,” Ross wrote. “Shaheed was effective in his first three-plus years in New Orleans, but the move put a bigger spotlight on how much of an impact he can make as an electric player with the ball in his hands.

“For those of you who didn’t see last Saturday’s Divisional Round blowout of San Francisco, Shaheed is Percy Harvin-esque with the goods to alter a game as a returner, as evidenced by his 95-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff. Shaheed is lightning in a bottle with the talent to elevate a lot of offenses.”

The question will be whether the Seahawks want to pay Shaheed this offseason or whether another team could entice him with a bigger role, along with being a special teams weapon.

Shaheed has had 15 catches for 188 yards and has scored two touchdowns in nine games for the Seahawks this season, per StatMuse. Moreover, the Seattle standout has recorded 880 all-purpose yards since joining the team midseason, per Pro Football Reference.

Rashid Shaheed Would Like to Stay in Seattle

With his future uncertain after this season, Kay Adams asked Shaheed on Dec. 23, 2024, about the possibility of staying in Seattle.

“I for sure do,” Shaheed told Adams on “Up & Adams.” “I feel like they brought me here for a reason, and that’s to be here for a minute. That’s the goal.”

Moreover, Adams shared that she would like to see the wideout stick around with the Seahawks beyond this season, given how the two parties have fit since the trade.

“You are a free agent after the season, Adams added. “I’d like to see you stay there [but] I know it’s business.”

Seahawks’ Rashid Shaheed Talks Klint Kubiak

One reason Shaheed has hit the ground running after moving from the Saints to the Seahawks is that he has reunited with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in Seattle. Shaheed spoke about what his reunion has been like as he’s become an impact player for his new team.

“Obviously, being familiar with him, being comfortable around him, Shaheed added. “He always believed in me in New Orleans, and it was a ton of fun working with him, and now getting a chance to work with him here.

“We felt like we haven’t missed a beat at all. It took a little bit just to get the offense back into my brain and learning the system again. But yeah, ever since the first couple of weeks, I feel like it’s been a smooth transition with him. It’s been fun.”

While Shaheed will soon have to worry about his future, for now his focus is likely on the NFC title game on Jan. 25 against the Los Angeles Rams, as he can play a major role in pushing the Seahawks into the Super Bowl.
