Seahawks Legend Richard Sherman Destroys Cowboys’ George Pickens After NSFW Rant

Seattle Seahawks fans were greeted with Richard Sherman back in the middle of an old-school trash-talk battle — only this time, the target was Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens.

After Sherman blasted Pickens’ effort on national TV in a loss to the Detroit Lions, the receiver fired back with a vulgar Instagram rant accusing Sherman of riding the Legion of Boom. Sherman’s reply? A reminder that a Seahawks legend doesn’t have to explain himself to a player who hasn’t come close to matching his resume.

Sherman Calls Out ‘Uninterested’ Pickens on Thursday Night Football

The whole thing started on Amazon’s Thursday Night Football desk.

Sherman, working as an analyst, focused in on Pickens’ body language in the Cowboys’ 44-30 loss in Detroit. Pickens finished with five catches for 37 yards on nine targets, his worst outing since Week 1.

From Sherman’s vantage point, the tape wasn’t pretty. He said Pickens looked “uninterested in playing football” and described his late-game effort as disengaged and half-hearted — the kind of critique that carries extra weight coming from a five-time All-Pro corner who built a career on competing every snap.

Sherman’s comments matched what a lot of fans saw on the broadcast: on at least one late route, Pickens appeared to throttle down, prompting a sideline conversation with Dak Prescott. And with CeeDee Lamb knocked out by a concussion in the second half, Dallas needed its new star receiver to take over. Instead, Ryan Flournoy led the team in catches and yards.

For Sherman, that wasn’t just a bad night; it was unacceptable for a player who wants to be mentioned with the best wideouts in football.

Pickens Fires Back at Sherman & the ‘Legion of Boom’

Pickens didn’t take the criticism quietly.

On Friday, he posted a now-deleted Instagram Story going directly at Sherman. In the message, Pickens called out Sherman by name, complained about being singled out on a “team game,” and argued that former players should understand how coverages and double-teams can erase explosive plays.

The line Seahawks fans immediately zeroed in on: Pickens wrote that “Richard … Sherman … ain’t shh without the Legion of Boom” and took a shot at his stint with the San Francisco 49ers, saying “we all remember San Francisco, brother.”

He also labeled Sherman a “leach weirdo” and told him not to speak on his name, turning a film critique into a full-on personal attack that exploded across X and Instagram before he took it down.

Those wanting to see the full thing can see it captured on X. Warning, it certainly isn’t safe for work.

For Seahawks fans, it was surreal: a 24-year-old receiver going after the face of the Legion of Boom, the same group that led Seattle to a 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII demolition of the Denver Broncos and back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.

Sherman’s Receipts: ‘Kid Hasn’t Done Enough to Merit a Response’

If Pickens wanted smoke, Sherman had numbers.

Rather than fire back with more insults, Sherman went to X and casually dropped his own receipts. He said the “kid hasn’t done enough to merit a response” and pointed out that at the same point in his career, he was working on his third straight first-team All-Pro and second Super Bowl appearance.

That’s not bragging — it’s reality. During his time in Seattle, Sherman became the defining star of the Legion of Boom, helping the Seahawks lead the NFL in scoring defense for four straight seasons and earning three first-team All-Pro nods, two second-team selections and five Pro Bowls.

Even after leaving Seattle, he made another Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl with the 49ers in 2019, which makes Pickens’ jab about San Francisco ring especially hollow.

What It Means for Seahawks Fans: LOB Pride & a New WR Star

This feud is technically a Cowboys problem, but it hits home in Seattle for a couple of reasons.

First, Pickens going after the Legion of Boom is effectively going after the Seahawks’ golden age. That group — Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and company — didn’t just help win a title; they changed how the league thought about building secondaries and turned Seattle into the most feared defense of the 2010s.

Second, the league-wide context matters. As Bleacher Report noted, Pickens is having a huge season but still trails Seahawks star Jaxon Smith-Njigba in receiving yards; JSN currently sits No. 1 in the NFL, with Pickens right behind him.

So the Cowboys receiver who just got called out for effort is taking aim at a Seahawks legend — while chasing a current Seahawks wideout in the stat race. That’s the kind of scoreboard Seahawks fans tend to enjoy.

There’s also a subtle Seattle through-line in how this is being handled. Brian Schottenheimer, now the Cowboys head coach and play-caller, said he plans to talk to Pickens about the Instagram outburst, acknowledging the post is down but making clear it still has to be addressed.

In a separate ProFootballTalk piece, Mike Florio tied this back to why the Pittsburgh Steelers were willing to trade Pickens and pay DK Metcalf instead, citing questions about accountability, maturity and self-awareness, the kind of culture traits Pete Carroll and the Seahawks hammered home during the Legion of Boom years.

The Legion of Boom is still delivering hits.
