The Seattle Seahawks locked down Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the near future, then shared a one-word post praising their star receiver.
The two sides came together on a record-setting contract extension, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that the team gave him a four-year deal worth $168.6 million, with $120 million in guarantees.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Celebrates After Massive Deal
Shortly after the deal was announced, Smith-Njigba took to social media to celebrate, and the team shared a simple response.
After landing the largest deal for a wide receiver in NFL history, Smith-Njigba shared a post on X that demonstrated his appreciation.
“SEAAAA,” he shared.
The team quoted Smith-Njigba’s post, sharing an equally short response.
“HAWKSSSS,” the team replied in a post on X.
Smith-Njigba is coming off a career-best season where he helped new Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold hit the ground running. The pair — along with running back Kenneth Walker III — gave Seattle one of the league’s most dangerous offenses, winning a competitive NFC West division and cruising to the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.
As ESPN noted, Smith-Njigba embraced a team-first mentality that helped create a well-rounded powerhouse.
“Smith-Njigba is an embodiment of the ‘Mission Over Bulls—‘ mantra the Seahawks adopted last season during their run to Super Bowl LX,” the report noted. “Those who know Smith-Njigba well say he’s genuinely more invested in the team’s success than his personal accomplishments.”
Smith-Njigba was still able to rack up some important career accomplishments in 2025, leading the NFL in receiving yards for the first time in his career and earning first-team All-Pro honors. The new contract now pays him at an appropriate level for his station, which could also put pressure on him in the future.
Deal Came Through Easily
As ESPN noted, the two sides were able to reach an agreement “without a whiff of the acrimony” that has become a hallmark of big contract extensions.
“There was no such drama between the Seahawks and Smith-Njigba, 24, as the two sides worked toward a deal that tops Wilson’s for the richest in team history. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a four-year, $168.6 million extension that includes over $120 million in guarantees,” the report noted.
“Given the history, that a contract of this magnitude got done as quickly as it did might be surprising. At the same time, it makes sense given the player in question.”
Smith-Njibga foreshadowed the deal, saying earlier this offseason that he was confident the two sides would reach an agreement and didn’t expect any difficulties.
“I’m really not too pressed right now to get it done,” Smith-Njigba told Jonah Javad of WFAA. “I know my time is coming and when we get it done it’s gonna be a great deal. And, you know, God’s timing is perfect timing. So, whenever that may come, we’ll be ready for it, and I think I believe I deserve to be the highest paid in my position. Just what I give to the game and the community, you know, I give it my all. I think that’s worth a lot.”
