The Seattle Seahawks are bringing up reinforcements at running back on the eve of the team’s NFC Championship showdown against the Los Angeles Rams. With Zach Charbonnet sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Seahawks elevated two running backs from the team’s practice squad.

The news comes one day after Seattle also activated George Holani from injured reserve. Holani has not played since sustaining an injury against the Tennessee Titans on November 23, 2025.

All of these moves were made to provide depth behind Seahawks star running back Ken Walker. Unless there is a setback on gameday, it appears that Seattle will have four running backs active for the NFC Championship.

A little more than 24 hours before kickoff, the Seahawks activated ex-Rams running back Cam Akers and versatile playmaker Velus Jones Jr. With Akers and Jones on the team’s practice squad, Seattle opted against signing a veteran free agent following the unfortunate news on Charbonnet.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Seahawks news ahead of the team’s clash against the Rams.

Seahawks RB Cam Akers Won a Super Bowl With the Rams in 2021

Akers is an interesting name as the running back could square off against his former team. The veteran running back was part of the Rams team that won the Super Bowl during the 2021 season.

Akers’ top season came in 2022 when the running back notched 188 carries for 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 appearances for the Rams, including nine starts. It will be worth watching to see who serves as Walker’s backup against the Rams with Akers, Holani and Jones all active.

The Seahawks Activated RB George Holani & TE Elijah Arroyo From Injured Reserve Ahead of NFC Championship

There is more good news for Seattle as the team activated both Holani and rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo from injured reserve. With the exception of Charbonnet, the Seahawks will have a plethora of playmakers to help take the pressure off Sam Darnold.

Additionally, head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that franchise left tackle Charles Cross is expected to play against the Rams. Darnold was not listed on the injury report ahead of the NFC Championship as it appears the quarterback’s oblique issue has subsided.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald Predicted Run to NFC Championship in 2024 in Viral Clip

The Seahawks released footage of Macdonald’s first meeting with the team in 2024 where the coach predicted Seattle would reach the NFC Championship. It took until Macdonald’s second season in Seattle for his vision to truly come to fruition.

“One of the things I want you guys to feel going through this program is that we have a vision for you in this football team,” Macdonald remarked at the time. “But today, all right, I’m going to take you here now, so stay with me. I want us to just take a minute here and fast forward to January (in the) NFC Championship.

“It’s 30-something degrees, all right, it’s wet, it’s windy. All right, it’s (expletive) for them, okay, but it’s just right for us. We’re loose. We’re focused. We’re confident. We just spent the last nine months stacking every opportunity that we had to put us in that position,” Macdonald added.

“The team across from us in the other locker room, okay, they’ve seen the tape. They know what they’re in for. Eleven guys playing as one every snap. They know that we’re like that.”
