The Seattle Seahawks are fast approaching the team’s first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, August 15, and the franchise has orchestrated a bevy of roster moves in recent days. Seattle’s roster shuffle continues as the team announced two additional moves on Saturday, August 8.
The Seahawks signed rookie running back Justin Jones to a new deal. Seattle cut ties with linebacker Power Echols to make room on the roster for Jones.
The news comes nearly 24 hours after the Seahawks initially signed Echols. Seattle previously signed Jones as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason.
Jones’ special teams versatility is a plus as the rookie attempts to make the Seahawks roster. The running back posted 16 carries for 110 yards in limited action during his collegiate career at Auburn.
“Jones, who took part in Seattle’s rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player, saw limited action at running back at Auburn, but was a special teams standout, recording a blocked punt and four special teams tackles last season,” Seahawks.com’s John Boyle wrote on August 8.

Seattle previously signed Echols on Friday, August 7, while releasing linebacker Joseph Vaughn. On Thursday, August 6, the Seahawks announced a pair of offensive moves.
Seattle signed fullback Brock Lampe and released tight end Lance Mason in a corresponding move. The Seahawks also signed running back T.J. Harden and cornerback Jordan Washington.
Seattle released cornerback Brandon Johnson and linebacker Garrett Nelson to make room on the roster.
Seahawks Rumors: Seattle Is Concerned About the Team’s Running Back Depth
Fans can expect that more roster moves are on the way, particularly at running back. The first episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” revealed a front office discussion which showed the team’s concern about their running back depth.
Zach Charbonnet is recovering from an ACL injury, while the team lost Super Bowl MVP Ken Walker to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Seattle selected Notre Dame playmaker Jadarian Price in the first round, and the rookie has a chance to win the starting spot.

George Holani is also expected to get touches as well. Price and Notre Dame teammate Jeremiyah Love were both selected in the first round.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider believed the two Irish running backs separated themselves from other prospects in the 2026 NFL draft.
“I just think it’s a pretty cool story that these guys get drafted in the first round too, from the same school,” Schneider noted, per Seahawks.com.
“It was really the story you watched all fall. I mean, these guys were dynamic, the two of these guys. Different runners.”
Seahawks News: RB Jadarian Price Is Turning Heads at Training Camp
Price is already making his presence felt during training camp. ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that Price has been a difference maker in the passing game.
“As for the question of how much Price can contribute in the passing game, he’s starting to answer it,” Henderson detailed on July 27. “Seattle’s first-round pick has stood out in that regard over the first three days of training camp, particularly on one play Monday.
“In a 7-on-7 period, Price got open behind veteran linebacker Ernest Jones IV, then hauled in an over-the-shoulder throw from Sam Darnold deep down the field for a touchdown.”
