Darnold and his future wife official got engaged in July of 2025, before his start with the Seahawks, in a beachside proposal. The couple’s Instagram post about it garnered more than 30,000 likes and 390 comments of congrats.
While the couple hasn’t formally announced their wedding date, the website Registry Finder has a wedding between a Katie Hoofnagle and Sam Darnold set for Friday, April 3, 2026.
There’s also no story behind how they met that’s public, but she was in North Carolina while he was playing for the Carolina Panthers, so it would make sense that they would meet at that time.
Katie has been supportive of Sam during his rise to the top with the Seattle Seahawks. After the team’s NFC Championship, she took to Instagram to say, “We’re not done yet,” with a bunch of exclamation marks.

It’s hard to believe that just one year ago, Darnold was about to become a free agent. After getting the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs during the 2024-25 season, he was cut lose, and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald saw something in Darnold that perhaps he didn’t even see in himself. He saw a champion.
After the team’s first league playoff game on January 17, Darnold talked about how he feels at home with the Seahawks.
“It’s huge,” Darnold said of the win, according to the team’s official website. “I don’t take it for granted whatsoever. It’s just a special group. I think that’s the biggest thing, and that’s why it means so much. Just the way those guys are in the locker room, ever since I got here.”
He added, “They were tight before I got here, obviously, but just the way that they took me in as one of their own. And that’s what’s so special about this league in general. You make so many great relationships throughout this whole process.”
Darnold also raved about the team’s locker room and coaches, “just the way that we play together. That’s the reason why I play this game, and they’ve made it really easy for me to come in here ever since I did in April to be able to help lead this team and drive the ball down the field, score touchdowns, all those things.”
