The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted LSU tight end Bauer Sharp with the 185th pick of the NFL Draft. The Buccaneers came into the NFL draft interested in upgrading their tight end position. They just gave Cade Otton a fresh contract extension and still have Payne Durham on the roster. However, both of those players have been unspectacular in the Buccaneers tenure.

The Buccaneers traded up for this pick giving up picks 195 and 229 to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sharp transferred from Oklahoma to LSU last season. In his two years of production, Sharp totaled 576 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was mainly viewed as a blocking tight end in college and neither team relied on him to be a receiver.

GettyDraft analyts view Sharp as a seventh round pick or UDFA.

PFF ranked Sharp as the 355th best prospect in the NFL Draft. He received poor grades as a receiver and a blocker. They gave him a 49.3 receiving grade and a 51.1 run blocking grade. They did not view him as a draftable prospect.

Dane Brugler of the Athletic ranked Sharp as the 25th best tight end in the class and graded him as a seventh round prospect. Brugler acknowledged Sharp as a great athlete but a very raw prospect as a tight end. Sharp converted to tight end in 2022 after being a quarterback in high school. He was a zero star recruit.

Brugler said, “Sharp is more average than above average in most categories, but his special teams experience and alignment versatility give him a shot to earn an NFL roster spot.”
