The Tennessee Titans have the franchise quarterback in Cam Ward, who received his first Pro Bowl nod in his rookie season. Under the tutelage of new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Ward is expected to have a big 2026 season.
The backup job is up for grabs and it appears Mitchell Trubisky, who signed a two-year deal with Tennessee, will secure the job over Will Levis.
Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report predicts the Titans will make Levis a “surprise roster cut” ahead of Week 1.
“The first pick in the second round of the 2023 draft, Will Levis made 21 starts over his first two seasons. Then the Titans drafted Cam Ward first overall in 2025, and Levis was relegated to the bench,” Davenport wrote. “The Kentucky product may soon be out of Nashville altogether.”
“Levis, 27, may not be lacking in confidence, but his performance tells another story. In those 21 starts, he threw just 21 touchdown passes… Ward is the unquestioned starter in Tennessee, while Mitchell Trubisky is a veteran backup with nine seasons and 57 starts under his belt. Levis faces a difficult path to a roster spot.”
Levis, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, did not play in the 2025 season. Trubisky did feature in four games with the Buffalo Bills last season, throwing for 313 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Before being placed on the bench, the former 33rd overall pick threw for 3899 passing yards and 21 touchdowns but recorded 16 interceptions.
Showcasing his skills, Will Levis has proven he could be a team’s signal-caller. A change of scenery may benefit the quarterback.
Brian Daboll Shares Positive Words about Will Levis

New OC Brian Daboll admitted part of the reason he joined the Tennessee Titans coaching staff was due to Cam Ward. But he has also highlighted the rest of the quarterback room in a positive light.
“Will has been really good for us,” Daboll said, via the Titans. “He has picked up the system well. He is a big, strong, athletic guy who has played some in the league. He kind of gets a fresh start here with us.”
While not the backup, Levis could find another place to become their backup and potentially an option to start for a team if their first option behind the center doesn’t pan out, or if there is an injury.
Will Levis has noted that he feels better than ever heading into his fourth season in the league.
