The Boston Bruins have turned up as a predicted landing spot for superstar Nikita Kucherov following his stunning trade request from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Edmonton Journal columnist David Staples identified Boston as his preferred destination for the two-time Hart Trophy winner in a Friday, Oct. 30, social media post.
The prediction follows reports that Kucherov has informed the Lightning he won’t sign a contract extension and wants to be traded.
Although Tampa Bay has publicly rejected the possibility of moving its franchise cornerstone, the unfolding situation could present Boston with an occasion to acquire one of the NHL’s most productive offensive players.
Bruins Pegged to Land Nikita Kucherov Amid Trade Request

Staples identified three potential destinations for Kucherov, Boston included.
“Kucherov? Carolina, Utah or Boston would be my bet,” Staples wrote on X. “I’ll bet Boston gets him.”
The columnist also questioned Kucherov’s motivation for seeking a move, given Tampa Bay’s competitive position.
The speculation lands in the wake of a Friday report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, who revealed that Kucherov informed his teammates and the organization that he would prefer to continue his career elsewhere.
Kucherov’s reported interest in playing alongside another superstar could make Boston an intriguing possibility.
According to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, the winger has expressed interest in joining a team featuring another elite NHL player, although his preferred destinations haven’t been publicly identified.
Boston could offer that chance with captain David Pastrnak, who has recorded seven goals and 11 assists through 14 games this season.
At the moment, Kucherov has registered four goals and 11 assists through 12 appearances. He collected 130 points last season and captured his second Hart Trophy in June.
Pairing the two prolific offensive players would boost Boston’s firepower, particularly on the power play.
Bruins Face Obstacles in Potential Nikita Kucherov Trade

Kucherov’s contract is the key piece thwarting a future deal.
The veteran is heading into the final months of an eight-year, $76 million agreement carrying a $9.5 million annual cap hit, per PuckPedia.
Boston currently has approximately $6.4 million in projected salary-cap space, according to PuckPedia’s Bruins breakdown.
That figure falls short of Kucherov’s cap hit, meaning the Bruins would likely need more maneuvering to accommodate his contract in a trade without salary retention.
The potential acquisition would also introduce debates about Kucherov’s future past this season.
He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2027, perhaps requiring Boston to negotiate a lucrative extension to secure his services beyond a single playoff run.
Additionally, Kucherov possesses a modified no-trade clause permitting him to identify 10 acceptable destinations, via TSN insider Pierre LeBrun’s reporting.
There’s currently no confirmation that Boston appears on that list.
The Bruins have, nevertheless, positioned themselves among the Atlantic Division’s strongest teams early this season with a 9-4-1 record.
Acquiring a player of Kucherov’s caliber could substantially elevate their Stanley Cup aspirations, although the potential asking price would almost certainly demand hefty assets.
One more obstacle is Tampa Bay’s reluctance to entertain a move.
Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois addressed the trade speculation Friday, declaring that the organization has no intention of trading its superstar.
