Colorado Avalanche team captain Gabriel Landeskog made a triumphant return to the lineup in last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, marking his first game action since lifting the Cup itself after a successful postseason three years prior.
However, Avalanche fans everywhere were left holding their collective breaths during Sunday evening’s tilt against the current defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
During the second period, Landeskog was driving to the net when his skate appeared to catch a rut in the ice, resulting in him tumbling down to the ice and then crashing into the net past goaltender Daniil Tarasov.
The Avalanche captain remained down on the ice for several minutes and needed the assistance of both his teammates and the team training staff to make it slowly back to the bench and then eventually down the tunnel toward the club dressing room.
