On September 26, the Vancouver Canucks announced that Barrie would join regional Sportsnet broadcasts of Canucks games. According to the team’s press release, he would make his debut the same night.
“Growing up on Vancouver Island, I always thought it would be special to finish my career with the Canucks,” said Barrie in the Canucks press release. “While my playing days ended elsewhere, I’m grateful for the chance to start this new chapter with a great organization so close to home. I’ve always embraced the lighter side of the game, and I’m excited to bring years of insight and lots of laughs to the broadcast!”
During his first broadcast, he discussed his new career decision. As part of his response, he quipped, “I think I spent 70 games in the press box last year, so I figured I could jump right into this press box this year.”

Barrie was well-known around the NHL for his offensive talents. Barrie collected 508 points in 822 NHL games played.
During the 2020-21 season, he led all NHL defensemen in scoring, with 48 points in 56 games. The blueliner with the next highest point total was Adam Fox of the New York Rangers (47 points). Fox would be crowned the winner of the Norris Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s best defenseman, as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
NBC Sports reported on the voting results. Barrie came out of the voting process empty handed, with no writer giving him a first, second, third, fourth, or fifth-place vote.
3. He is Married to Emma Rose, & They Have Two Children
According to People.com, Tyson Barrie, 33, married Emma Rose, 29, on July 8th, 2023. Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon were among the guests celebrating with the couple.
The two began dating in 2016 and then became engaged in 2020. Tyson and Emma have two children, William Leo, 4, and Nora Rose, 1.
Emma’s LinkedIn profile says that she is the President of Rose Resolutions in addition to being a Program Officer Specialist with the Public Health Agency of Canada. At Rose Resolutions, she “serves as a leadership development specialist for organizations and resolution strategist for individuals.”
4. He founded a Beer Company That Donates 10% to Charity
On January 24, 2023, Barrie launched his own brand of beer called Chilly Ones, a low alcohol beer rated at 3 percent ABV.
One highlight for Chilly Ones is its connection to Charity work. The company is partnered with Power To Give, giving 10 percent of its profits to the charitable partner. According to their website, Chilly Ones’ main focus is “to help put as many underprivileged kids and communities as we can into sports programs.”
Barrie is the Founder and Chief of Chilly Ones. According to the Team Page on the Chilly Ones website, “He strives to surround Chilly Ones with the right culture and personnel to make it not only a successful company but a company that is enjoyable to be a part of.”
5. Lauren McDavid Renovated His 100-Year-Old Home

In 2021, Barrie approached Connor McDavid’s wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid (who was Connor’s girlfriend at the time), to renovate his 100-year-old home in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
McDavid spoke with Tatler about the project, saying, “Victoria is such a landmark of Canadian history. This space carries an air of wisdom and layers of detail that can’t be replicated in contemporary builds.”
According to her profile in The Design Society, McDavid graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. In 2019, she moved to Edmonton and started up her own design studio, where she specializes in residential design.
