The New York Rangers will be looking to return to their Presidents’ Trophy form of 2023-24 this season. After a bitter season, the Blue Shirts return with one of the strongest veteran cores in the NHL.
Plus, their offseason moves give the club some flexibility to compete with the top clubs in the Metro Division. But the biggest change of all was bringing in Stanley Cup-winning coach Mike Sullivan to run the operation behind the bench.
The Rangers will be looking, nevertheless, to fine-tune the lineup as the season wears on. As such, three players emerge as ones who could be traded this upcoming season.

Juuso Parssinen
Juuso Parssinen joined the New York Rangers last season at the trade deadline in the deal involving Ryan Lindgren with the Colorado Avalanche. While Parssinen didn’t overly impress, he impressed enough to earn a two-year deal in New York.
According to Daily Faceoff, Parssinen will be the Rangers’ third-line center. But that may not last very long. The club could be looking to upgrade at that position at some point during the season.
So, Parssinen could find himself on the move again this upcoming season. Unless he can have a strong start to the season, Parssinen might be the first forward to go this season.
Carson Soucy
The veteran blue liner was another trade deadline acquisition for the Rangers last season. He played well enough to earn a spot in the club’s top-four defense group. He’ll be counted on this season to anchor the middle pairing with Will Borgen.
However, Soucy is entering the final season of his current three-year deal. That situation could mean the Rangers might be willing to part ways with Soucy before he becomes a UFA. If that’s the case, the team could be looking to give a younger blue liner like Matthew Robertson a regular spot in the lineup.
Matt Rempe
Matt Rempe is a fan favorite in New York. His throwback style has become popular. However, it’s also gotten him in trouble. Last season, Rempe faced an eight-game suspension for a controversial hit on Dallas Stars’ defenseman Miro Heiskanen.
Plus, his limited offensive upside has largely relegated him to a fourth-line role in which he plays about eight minutes a night. If Rempe cannot round out his game or find himself dealing with disciplinary issues again, the Rangers may move on from him at some point.
Rangers Will Be Looking to Upgrade
A strong start to the season by the Rangers should encourage GM Chris Drury to upgrade at various positions. Mainly, the bottom six could use some more scoring punch. The blue line may also demand more depth, especially if injuries become an issue.
There don’t appear to be any imminent trades at this point. However, the Rangers’ forthcoming moves will largely depend on the club’s performance to open the season. That’s why a slow start could open the floodgates to a flurry of activity.
