The Toronto Maple Leafs have been active this offseason, but one trade pitch has them acquiring a bottom-six forward to add more depth to the lineup.

Heavy.com proposed a deal that would see the Maple Leafs acquire Dakota Joshua from the Vancouver Canucks in an intriguing move.

The proposed deal would be an intriguing move as Toronto would acquire Joshua, who plays center but also plays left wing. The Maple Leafs, meanwhile, would get out of Janrkrok’s contract, but would have to give up two mid-round picks.

The Maple Leafs would acquire Joshua, who would likely be a third-line center or could play on the wing. Joshua has three years left on his four-year, $13 million deal. The 29-year-old is 6-foot-3 and adds some size and physicality to the bottom of the lineup. He recorded 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in 57 games. His career-high is 18 goals and 32 points, which he recorded two seasons ago.

In return, the Maple Leafs would give up two draft picks as well as Jarnkrok, who could replace Joshua. Jarnkrok is in the final year of his four-year, $8.4 million deal. He would be a middle-six winger for the Canucks and can add more offense than Joshua does. He dealt with injuries last season as he skated in just 19 games, recording 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points. His career-high is 20 goals and 39 points.

Canucks Open to Moving Joshua

Vancouver hasn’t done a ton this offseason, but one insider claims the Canucks are looking to trade Joshua.

Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal revealed that Vancouver was exploring the trade market for Joshua earlier in the offseason.

“I’m hearing Canucks are souring on Joshua. His name is out there,” Dhaliwal reported.

Yet, after Vancouver saw Pius Suter sign with the St. Louis Blues, perhaps the Canucks look to keep Joshua, as he can be the team’s third-line center.

Joshua currently projects to be the fourth-line left winger for the Canucks, according to DailyFaceoff.

Maple Leafs Eyes Jarnkrok Trade

Before free agency began, Jarnkrok’s name came up as a potential buyout candidate, but Toronto opted not to.

After not buying him out, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the Maple Leafs are looking to trade Jarnkrok.

“I think one of the reasons Toronto didn’t get Mangiapane, they indicated we need to move some bodies out, and Mangiapane didn’t want to wait, Roslovic is waiting. I assume one of them is Kampf, another could be potentially be Jarnkrok, we’ll leave Nick Robertson out of the rumors,” Friedman said on 32 Thoughts.

Jarnkrok’s name came up in trade rumors last season, but Toronto opted not to move him. But, if the Maple Leafs make a big move, his salary could be part of a deal, as GM Brad Treliving says he is hoping to spend the money.

“We would’ve liked to use that earlier today. But if there’s not the right fit to use it on, we will take the flexibility,” Treliving said.

The Maple Leafs have just over $5.3 million in cap space.
