World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has opened up about working with Roman Reigns outside WWE. The unlikely duo lent their voices to The Zebros on the record-breaking animated film Zootopia 2.
In a recent interview with Linsey Davis on Good Morning America, Punk promoted his latest film, Night Patrol, which stars Justin Long. But before talking about that movie, he was asked what it was like to work with an in-ring rival like Reigns in a Disney film.
“I think the on-screen chemistry that we share in WWE, obviously, translated. Somebody saw it. Somebody thought we would be a good fit for The Zebros. So we’re doing something right,” Punk said.
Punk voiced the character named Gene Zebrowski, while Reigns’ character was called Gene Zebraxton. The Zebros were a pair of zebra ZPD cops.
They were not the only WWE stars in the Disney movie. Dwayne Johnson, who is more famously known as The Rock, had a cameo as a dik-dik antelope named Zeke.
Punk Shocked Role Was Offered
Less than two months after the release of Zootopia 2, CM Punk was still in awe about getting offered the part of Gene Zebrowski.
The Second City Saint told Dave LaGreca of Busted Open Radio last week that he couldn’t believe Disney wanted him to work for them. He even doubted that he was the studio’s first choice for the role.
“When I got the call for Zootopia 2 (laughs), I was like, ‘Huh? What? Disney specifically wants me? Okay?’ There’s a bit of impostor syndrome because I want to be like, ‘Okay, who said no? Who are the first 13 people who said no to this?’ But no, it’s just like sometimes you just got to realize like, ‘No, you’re good at what you do, and people want to work with you,'” Punk said.
In addition to Zootopia 2 and Night Patrol, Punk also has other projects outside WWE. He has a recurring role in the Syfy TV series Revival, as well as another movie coming up titled Guarding Stars.
It’s a holiday romantic comedy film based on the novel called The Bodyguard. The main stars are Jared Padalecki and Leighton Meester, with Netflix in charge of production.
Finn Balor To Challenge Punk
CM Punk successfully defended the World Heavyweight Champion on the January 5 episode of RAW against Bron Breakker. Punk was then confronted by Finn Balor earlier this week, challenging him for the title on January 19 live in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The reigning champ accepted the challenge, and the first time ever match has been made official by RAW general manager Adam Pearce. It will be just Punk’s second title defense since winning the gold at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI last November 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Punk is in his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion. His first run ended in less than five minutes back at SummerSlam 2025, when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase. He just outlasted Gunther to win the championship, so Rollins made quick work of him.
It will be interesting to see if Breakker, who is currently suspended, or even The Vision, makes their presence felt next week during the match inside The SSE Arena.
