Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz 2025 US Open final preview.

Sunday’s US Open final will see Jannik Sinner & Carlos Alcaraz battle it out for not only the final Grand Slam title of the year, but also the world No. 1 ranking.

On the heels of Sinner’s stunning withdrawal from the final of the Cincinnati Open just days before the start of the US Open, the Italian star is now looking to become the first man since Roger Federer to defend a title in Flushing Meadows.

On the flip side, Alcaraz will look to bounce back from a loss to Sinner in the Wimbledon final earlier this summer and pick up his second US Open trophy.

Sinner vs. Alcaraz H2H

Heading into Sunday’s final, Alcaraz leads the all-time head-to-head against Sinner 9-5 following Sinner’s mid-final retirement in Cincinnati.

Additionally, Alcaraz leads the all-time head-to-head on hard courts 6-2.

Prior to that, it was Sinner who emerged victorious from their most recent clash in the Wimbledon final.

Before Cincinnati, however, Alcaraz had won four of the past five meetings between the two, including in the final of Roland Garros, where he saved three match points before bouncing back from two sets down.

Below you can see their 2025 head-to-head record.

Winner Tournament Surface Score
C. Alcaraz Cincinnati Open (M1000) Outdoor Hard 5-0 RET.
J. Sinner Wimbledon Grass 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4
C. Alcaraz Roland Garros Clay 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2)
C. Alcaraz Rome (M1000) Clay 7-6(5), 6-1

One thing to note heading into this match is, if it winds up raining in New York and Arthur Ashe Stadium’s roof is closed, many believe that the indoor conditions will benefit Sinner. More specifically, the expectation is that Sinner’s serve will benefit from the indoor conditions.

Whether that winds up being true, only time will tell.

Prediction: C. Alcaraz def. J. Sinner

Throughout the US Open, Alcaraz has looked incredibly dominant, rattling off six straight wins without dropping a set in Flushing Meadows.

While typically it’s Sinner who is able to weaponize his consistency, Alcaraz has shown impressive consistency himself, particularly in service games.

As Sinner noted while speaking to members of the press following his semifinal win over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday, Alcaraz’s serve has improved quite a bit:

“He has improved the serve a lot. I feel like he is serving much better with a better pace but the percentage is high all the time. It’s much more solid.Maybe before there were more ups and downs, but now he is very consistent. If you watch all the tournaments, he is going very far.”
