So-called “abnormal betting patterns” have been noticed by BetOnline sportsbook for a UFC 328 bout between Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley.
Dave Mason of BetOnline took to X on Saturday to reveal that his sportsbook has seen unusual betting patterns on tonight’s welterweight bout between Brady and Buckley, which is set to take place on the UFC 328 main card.
According to Mason, BetOnline has closed prop bets on the fight, and betting limits on the moneyline have been lowered as a result.
As of 3 p.m. on Saturday, Buckley is a -205 favorite in the latest UFC 328 betting odds, after being an underdog the whole week, while Brady is a +170 underdog after being the favorite the whole time up until now.
“Abnormal betting patterns from highly monitored accounts on tonights Sean Brady vs Joaquin Buckley UFC 328 bout. Props are closed. Limits are low on main market. Buckley is up to a -205 favorite after being a dog the whole time,” Mason wrote on social media.
The latest update: As of 3:30 p.m., the odds have swelled even more, with Buckley at -250 and Brady at +210.
As of this time of writing, the UFC has not commented on the status of the fight, so it’s a go as of now. However, the UFC did pull a fight between Michael Johnson and Alexander Hernandez at UFC 324 in January due to unusual betting patterns, so we will have to wait and see what the promotion does here with this bout. As of now, the fight is still on, but we’ll see what happens.
Sportsbook Also Noticed Unusual Bets at UFC Perth Last Week
In addition to this fight between Buckley and Brady, BetOnline also noticed “irregular action” last weekend at UFC Perth in a flyweight bout between Tim Elliott and Steve Erceg. Tons of money came in on Elliott, significantly dropping the betting line. But Erceg ended up winning that fight, putting to an end any discussion of something nefarious going on in that bout.
The difference between that fight and Brady vs. Buckley is that the latter’s line movement is far more drastic and significant on fight day, whereas the Elliott vs. Erceg line movement was smoother over the period of a few days. Not only has Buckley swung into favorite status, but he’s now an even bigger favorite than Brady ever was all week long. It’s a very peculiar line movement, to say the least. But again, there is no proof at the moment that anything nefarious is going on.
Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley are Top-10 Welterweight Contenders
This fight between Brady and Buckley is a matchup between two of the top-10-ranked welterweights in the UFC. Brady is ranked No. 6 in the weight class, with Buckley at No. 9, so this is a very important fight for both men as they look to remain at the top of their division.
Brady is coming off a knockout loss to top prospect Michael Morales in his last fight, while Buckey lost to Kamaru Usman in his last bout. These two fighters simply cannot afford to lose another fight in a row, meaning this is an extremely important bout in both of their careers, so much so that Buckley told the media this week he feels like the loser of this fight is getting cut. That’s unlikely to happen given they are both exciting fighters who are highly ranked, but you never know what the UFC matchmakers are thinking.
Either way, this is a very important fight in both Brady and Buckley’s careers, so we will see how it plays out if it goes down as expected tonight at UFC 328.
