UFC legend Cub Swanson provided a medical update on his pupil, Lerryan Douglas, who lost to Jamall Emmers at UFC Sacramento.

In what was the biggest upset of the night at UFC Sacramento, the veteran Emmers brutally knocked Douglas out as a +300 betting underdog in the featured preliminary card bout. It was a shocking loss for Douglas, who was riding a six-fight win streak entering the contest, with all six of those wins coming by way of knockout.

To make matters worse, we now know that Douglas also suffered an injury during the fight.

Cub Swanson Says Lerryan Douglas Broke His Orbital Bone

Taking to his social media following UFC Sacramento, Swanson provided an update on his fighter at Bloodline Combat Sports.

“Lerryan Douglas had a fractured orbital and instantly lost vision in that eye. He is ok and I’m glad he didn’t take more damage. We’ll know more after he sees a specialist this week. Thanks for all the support,” Swanson wrote on his X.

What’s Next for Lerryan Douglas?

After earning a UFC contract following a knockout win on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, Douglas immediately made a name for himself inside the Octagon when he scored a vicious knockout win over veteran Julian Erosa earlier this year in his UFC debut.

It was a terrific win for Douglas, and it earned him a spot in the featured prelim against Emmers at UFC Sacramento. Unfortunately for Douglas, things did not go his way in this fight, as he suffered a first-round knockout loss as a gigantic betting favorite and also broke his orbital bone.

Due to the injury, Douglas will likely be out for quite some time as the featherweight heals up from his injury, but when he does get back, he will likely take a step back down in competition after losing to Emmers.

Look for the UFC matchmakers to pair up Douglas with another featherweight fighter coming off a loss, and don’t expect “Gunslinger” to step back into the Octagon until 2027 at the earliest due to fracturing his orbital bone against Emmers at UFC Sacramento.
