UFC middleweight contender Gregory Rodrigues sent a message to former champion Dricus du Plessis following UFC Sacramento.
Rodrigues defeated Anthony Hernandez via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Sacramento for the biggest win of his MMA career to date.
Following the fight, Rodrigues used his post-fight interview as an opportunity to call out the former UFC middleweight champion du Plessis.
Gregory Rodrigues Wants Dricus du Plessis Next
Speaking to reporters at the UFC Sacramento post-fight press conference, Rodrigues further reiterated that he wants du Plessis next.
“Dricus Du Plessis, I think that’s the fight to make. It makes a lot of sense for my next battle, so I will talk to my managers, I will talk to the UFC, and we’ll see what’s going to happen,” Rodrigues said.

Rodrigues has won four straight fights, and he is one of the most exciting middleweights in the sport right now, so after beating Hernandez, there is no doubt he is due for a huge matchup in his next fight.
With du Plessis coming off a decision win over Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City earlier this summer, a matchup against Rodrigues, with a potential title shot at 185 lbs on the line, makes a ton of sense for both fighters, so we’ll see if the UFC is also interested in booking this matchup.
The fans would surely love to watch this fight, as it would pit two of the most dangerous middleweights in the sport against one another, and there could potentially be huge stakes on the line if a title shot is given to the winner.
The UFC needs to figure out who will be next for UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland. While a rematch with Nassourine Imavov is the fight that feels like it should happen next on merit, don’t be surprised if Strickland rematches former champion Khamzat Chimaev instead, if the UFC feels like that is the biggest fight they can book.
But regardless of what happens with Strickland, the UFC matchmakers can book du Plessis against Rodrigues in the meantime.
