One day closer to the start of the 2016-17 NBA season, there are six games on Monday’s preseason schedule. Among the teams playing are the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, who after playing their first two preseason games at home hit the road to take on the Atlanta Hawks. The two teams have met in the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, with the Cavaliers managing to sweep Atlanta on both occasions.
For the Hawks Al Horford is now a Boston Celtic, and in his place is center Dwight Howard as the team looks to be a greater threat to Cleveland in 2016-17. Howard, a native of Atlanta, agreed to a contract worth $70.5 million over three seasons with the Hawks on the first day of free agency in July.
Also playing Monday night are the San Antonio Spurs, who will see a couple familiar faces when they take on the Detroit Pistons. Detroit has two former Spurs on their roster in big men Aron Baynes and Boban Marjanovic, with the latter signing a three-year, $21 million deal as a restricted free agent that the Spurs declined to match back in July.
