Jordan Mason : DNP on Wednesday, IR still likely

Mason (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. When he spoke with the media Monday, coach Kyle Shanahan said Mason would be going to injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain. That move has yet to be made, but Shanahan did reiterate Wednesday that a trip to IR is still likely for Mason, via David Lombardi of SFStandard.com. The 49ers will roll with a backfield led by rookie Isaac Guerendo and veteran Patrick Taylor over the next several weeks. The team also signed Ke'Shawn Vaughn to its practice squad.

Amani Oruwariye : Returns to practice

Oruwariye (back) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Oruwariye has been on IR for the Cowboys' last five games since suffering a back injury against the 49ers in Week 8. The Penn State product will now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before he needs to be placed on the active roster, but if healthy enough, he could return Monday against the Bengals.

Quintin Morris : Estimated as limited

Morris (shoulder/groin) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice estimation. Morris played 38 total snaps (23 offensive and 15 on special teams) and caught his only target for 14 yards in the Bills' Week 13 win over the 49ers. However, he's dealing with shoulder and groin issues following Sunday's game. The 25-year-old could be in jeopardy of missing Buffalo's Week 14 matchup against the Rams if he's unable to upgrade to full practice Thursday or Friday.

Evan McPherson : Placed on IR

The Bengals have placed McPherson (right groin) on IR. McPherson will thus miss at least four games, meaning that the soonest he'd be eligible to return from IR would be Week 18 against the Steelers. To replace him, the Bengals officially added fellow kicker Cade York to the practice squad ahead of the team's Monday night game against the Cowboys.

Rapp (neck/shoulder) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice estimation. Rapp appears to have sustained neck and shoulder injuries in Buffalo's blowout win over the 49ers on Sunday night, despite playing 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps and recording six total tackles and one forced fumble. If he's unable to suit up for the Bills' Week 14 matchup against the Rams, rookie Cole Bishop would see increased work with the first-team secondary.

White will miss his second game in a row Wednesday after he rolled his left ankle during the Bulls' loss to the Celtics this past Friday. White's status for Friday's game versus the Pacers is currently in the air. With Lonzo Ball resting Thursday, the Bulls could turn to Ayo Dosunmu and Talen Horton-Tucker.

Richardson is now questionable for Wednesday's game against the Lakers with left heel soreness, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports. Miami upgraded Richardson to available earlier in the day after he recovered from his head illness, but now his status is in the air again. Prior to missing the past two games for Miami, Richardson fell out of the rotation.

Kevin Durant : Out at least one week

Durant (ankle) will be re-evaluated in one week, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. Durant has been diagnosed with a left ankle sprain and will miss at least three games as a result. Based on this re-evaluation date, a potential return on Dec. 13 against the Jazz could be on the table, but it's not guaranteed. The Suns are 1-6 this season with Durant out of the lineup, so this is a brutal blow for the team. In the meantime, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker will need to soak up some usage, while Grayson Allen, Ryan Dunn and Royce O'Neale could step into larger roles.

Daulton Varsho: Could miss Opening Day

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Tuesday that expecting Varsho (shoulder) to be ready for Opening Day "could be unrealistic," Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Atkins noted that Varsho isn't behind schedule in his recovery after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in late September. However, manager John Schneider's original prediction of Varsho being close to full participation for the start of spring training no longer seems likely. A clearer picture regarding the 28-year-old's timeline will emerge as the new season approaches.

Trevor Rogers: Visiting Driveline for velo gains

Rogers has been training at Driveline Baseball in Arizona this offseason in hopes of regaining some velocity, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Rogers averaged just 91.9 mph with his four-seamer in 2024, which was down 1.3 mph from 2023 and nearly three mph from its peak in 2022. Testing at Driveline revealed that Rogers' lower-body strength was lacking, and he believes getting a stronger lower half will allow him to rediscover a few ticks on his fastball. The pitcher also noted that he entered the offseason fully healthy for the first time in a couple years, which has allowed him "to do things in the weight room that I have not been able to do." Rogers posted a 4.92 ERA and 97:56 K:BB over 124.1 innings between the Marlins and Orioles in 2024 and spent the final five weeks of the season in the minors. He'll have to compete for a job in Baltimore's rotation, but upping his velocity will give him a better chance to bounce back in 2025.

Ryan Vilade: NRI deal with St. Louis

The Cardinals signed Vilade to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Vilade saw limited action with the Tigers in 2024, producing a .453 OPS in 17 games. He spent most of the year at Triple-A Toledo, slashing .278/.346/.449 with 13 homers and 20 stolen bases. Slated to turn 26 in February, Vilade saw starts at every position but shortstop, catcher and pitcher with Toledo.

Kyle Higashioka: Set to split time at catcher

Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker said Tuesday that Higashioka and Jonah Heim will split time at catcher in 2025, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Texas announced the signing of Higashioka to a two-year, $13.5 million contract on Monday. The 34-year-old is coming off the best offensive season of his career, having posted a .739 OPS with 17 home runs over 84 games with the Padres. Higashioka's 263 plate appearances in 2024 were a career high, but it sounds like he'll have a good shot to eclipse that total in 2025.

Jonah Heim: Will share time with Higashioka

Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker said Tuesday that Heim and Kyle Higashioka will receive equal playing time at catcher next season, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. It's not a surprise to hear that Higashioka will play extensively after the Rangers announced a two-year, $13.5 million contract with the veteran catcher. Heim made the All-Star team and won a Gold Glove in 2023 but fell off to just a .602 OPS and saw his defensive metrics dip significantly in 2024, as well.
