The Raiders signed Jones (back) on Wednesday. Jones appeared in 14 games with Miami in 2025, but he was shut down ahead of Week 17 with a back injury. Now, he's evidently in good shape for football activities again and is getting a shot with a new team. Las Vegas recently lost defensive tackle Leki Fotu to the Giants in free agency, and it's reasonable to suspect Jones could fill a similar role to the one Fotu left behind with the Raiders.

Latest Raiders News
Benito Jones : Headed to Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Jones (back) on Wednesday. Jones appeared in 14 games with Miami in 2025, but he was shut down ahead of Week 17 with a back injury. Now, he's evidently in good shape for football activities again and is getting a shot with a new team. Las Vegas recently lost defensive tackle Leki Fotu to the Giants in free agency, and it's reasonable to suspect Jones could fill a similar role to the one Fotu left behind with the Raiders.
Justin Shorter : Placed on reserve/injured list
Shorter (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/injured list by the Raiders on Monday. It's unclear what Shorter's injury is, but he'll have to reach an injury settlement with the Raiders to have a chance to play in 2026. A fifth-round pick of the Bills in 2023, he saw action in seven regular-season contests with Las Vegas last year, playing on five offensive snaps and 81 special-teams snaps. He has yet to record an NFL catch.
Fernando Mendoza : Learning to play under center
Mendoza has primarily taken snaps under center during rookie minicamp as he adjusts to head coach Klint Kubiak's offense after playing almost exclusively in shotgun formation in college, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports. Mendoza took just five snaps under center in three years split between California and Indiana, and the rookie first overall pick said after Saturday's practice that he "still has a long way to go" as he acclimates to playing primarily under center at the NFL level. He's a quick and motivated learner by all accounts, but if Mendoza needs more time to adjust to the NFL level, that could open the door for veteran Kirk Cousins to beat out the heralded rookie for the starting job out of the gate. More clarity on the state of Vegas' quarterback competition will likely materialize during training camp and the preseason in the coming months.
E.J. Williams : Joins Mendoza with Las Vegas
Williams signed as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders on Thursday. Williams played his first three collegiate campaigns with Clemson before transferring to Indiana. In his final year of eligibility, he recorded 36 catches for 438 yards and six touchdowns over 15 games. Williams didn't have the most prolific college career and struggled to stay healthy at times, but he has good size at 6-foot-3 and could have a slight advantage over the Raiders' other rookie wideouts entering training camp because he played at Indiana with QB Fernando Mendoza, who Las Vegas drafted first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Chase Roberts : Joins Las Vegas as UDFA
Roberts signed as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders on Thursday. Roberts played four seasons for BYU and averaged 53 catches for 828 yards and five touchdowns over his final two campaigns. He has good height at 6-foot-4 but lacks vertical speed. Las Vegas has one of the league's least-established WR corps, so Roberts could compete for a roster spot as a depth wideout if he impresses in training camp.
Matt Lauter : Inks deal with Raiders
Las Vegas signed Lauter as an undrafted free agent Thursday. Lauter spent all four of his collegiate campaigns with Boise State and had his best season as a junior, when he caught 47 passes for 619 yards and seven touchdowns over 14 games. The 6-foot-4 tight end took a step back as a senior, however, recording just 330 yards and two TDs on 37 receptions across 13 contests. The Raiders have one of the NFL's best 1-2 combinations at tight end with Brock Bowers (knee) and Michael Mayer, so Lauter probably won't see much game-day action early in his career.
Jacob Clark : Links up with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Clark as an undrafted free agent Thursday. Clark began his collegiate career with Minnesota before transferring to Missouri State. During his senior year, he completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 3,244 yards and a 28:11 TD:INT. Clark has a quick release but doesn't have a particularly strong arm. Las Vegas drafted Fernando Mendoza first overall and also signed veteran Kirk Cousins in early April, so Clark figures to develop on the practice squad if he sticks with the organization.
Jermod McCoy : Says knee feels good
McCoy said Saturday that his knee feels good but is letting the Raiders decide if another surgery is needed after missing all of 2025 with a torn ACL, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports. McCoy was highly regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the 2026 draft class, but he fell to the Raiders in Round 4 due to concerns that a second knee surgery was needed, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, despite previously being cleared in February. Las Vegas has yet to decide on McCoy's status, but the rookie cornerback was positive when discussing his knee and emphasized his trust in the Raiders organization to make the right choice. Should the Tennessee prospect avoid surgery, he'll compete for cornerback reps behind Eric Stokes and Darien Porter.
