The Red Sox optioned Siegler to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, reports Ian Browne of MLB.com. Siegler's stint with the big-league club will be short-lived after recently being called up on June 3. The 26-year-old recorded just four plate appearances in two games played for the Red Sox. Boston will activate Garrett Whitlock (knee) from the 15-day injured list, forcing them to send Siegler to Triple-A in order to make room for Whitlock.
The Red Sox recalled Seigler from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Henrique of BostonSportsJournal.com reports. He's sliding into the roster spot vacated by the injured Nick Sogard (side). Seigler has had a great season with Worcester, slashing .298/.425/.471 with three home runs, three stolen bases and a 22:19 BB:K over 30 contests. The 26-year-old has split playing time between second and third base with Worcester and could get some reps at those positions with the big club.
The Red Sox activated Seigler (knee) from the 10-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester. Seigler began a rehab assignment with Worcester on Thursday after recovering from left knee patellar tendinopathy, and the Red Sox will keep him with their top minor-league affiliate rather than add him to the active big-league roster. The 26-year-old utility player was acquired via trade from the Brewers over the offseason.
