Jacob Bird: Breaking News

The Yankees recalled Bird from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. He's grabbing the roster spot vacated by Ryan Weathers, who was placed on the paternity list. Bird has given up six runs over seven innings at the big-league level this season, though that's come with a 9:1 K:BB. He will likely be sent back down later this week when Weathers returns.

Bird was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Monday's game against the Angels. Bird was touched up for three runs on four hits over one inning Monday night, which marks the second time in his last four appearances that he's surrendered three runs. The Yankees have yet to announce a corresponding move but will likely bring up a fresh arm ahead of Tuesday's clash.

Bird signed a one-year contract with the Yankees to avoid arbitration Thursday. The official terms of the deal haven't been announced, but this was Bird's first year of arbitration eligibility. He closed the season with the Yankees, though he was at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the final two months of the campaign.
