The Diamondbacks released Vieira (elbow) on March 27. Vieira is set to miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery earlier in the spring. He'll likely look to catch on with a new organization once he completes his recovery.
Manager Torey Lovullo said Thursday that Vieira (elbow/knee/shoulder) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Vieira reported soreness in his knee, shoulder and elbow Monday -- the last of which seems to be the most severe, as it will require him to undergo Tommy John surgery. The operation will force him to miss the entire 2025 season, and he likely won't be cleared for game action until mid-2026.
Vieira told trainers Monday that he feels discomfort in his right knee, right elbow and right shoulder, MLB.com reports. The Diamondbacks are planning to have Vieira undergo imaging to determine what the source of the discomfort may be. Vieira played for three teams in 2024, finishing out the season with Arizona.
