Zachary Short: Everything you need to know

The Tigers acquired Short from the Nationals on Friday in exchange for cash considerations, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Short has been playing at Triple-A Rochester, where he's slashed .200/.292/.291 with one home run and an 8:17 BB:K over 21 games. He is not on the 40-man roster but will provide the Tigers with some experienced utility depth at Triple-A Toledo.

The Nationals acquired Short from the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. Short wasn't able to make Yankees' Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee, and he won't be on the Nationals' big-league roster, either. However, the veteran infielder should have a better chance at earning an opportunity down the line on a rebuilding Washington club.

The Yankees signed Short to a minor-league contract Dec. 12. Short had a .671 OPS in 22 games with the Astros in 2025 and is a career .172/.271/.296 hitter across parts of five major-league seasons. The utility infielder is slated to provide some experienced depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
