Devin Hester wasn’t done with the heroics after scoring on a 20-yard rushing touchdown during the Falcons’ rout of the Bucs Thursday night.
The special teams legend scored on a 62-yard punt return with 7:06 left in the first half, passing Hall of Famer Deion Sanders for first place on the all-time total return touchdown list with the 20th of his career.
Hester already held the career record for punt return touchdowns, and extended that mark to 14 with Thursday’s score. It was his first return touchdown with the Falcons after signing with Atlanta in the offseason following eight years with the Chicago Bears.
Hester tied Sanders’ record with an 81-yard punt return touchdown last October against Washington. Before that touchdown, he hadn’t scored on a return since November 13, 2011.
Hester was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the record-breaking play Thursday when he honored Sanders by high-stepping it into the endzone.
