Last year the New York Rangers had the Eastern Conference’s fifth-best record. They weren’t expected to make the Stanley Cup Finals. They did.

The Rangers fell to the Los Angeles Kings in 5 games, but New York came stronger this year, claiming the top seed in the Eastern Conference for the 2015 NHL Playoffs with a league-best 53-22-7 record.

And now the Rangers are expected to make the Cup finals.

At 9/4, they’ve been given the best odds to win the East by the sportsbooks.

The Montreal Canadiens, who had the second-best record at 50-22-10, and the Tampa Bay Lightning (50-24-8) come in at 9/2.

The NHL playoffs begin Wednesday night.
