As they prepare to play in Week 3, the Saints and Panthers are two teams appeared to be heading in opposite directions already.

New Orleans has had poor play on both sides of the ball in their losses to the Cardinals and Buccaneers. The news looked even worse when it was thought that their perennial Pro Bowl quarterback could miss some time with a rotator cuff injury. Brees will miss the Week 3 game, but the Saints and Brees are cautiously optimistic that he may be able to get back on the field soon.

If Brees can’t go on Sunday, the Saints will rely on Luke McCown to guide the offense. If that’s the case, we could see the already impressive Panthers run continue. The Carolina defense has proven more than capable against less-than-elite quarterbacks Blake Bortles (Jacksonville) and Ryan Mallett (Texans), holding them to a combined passer rating of 56.0. If Brees were to play, it would be their first formidable test.
