The Boston Marathon is a slice of Boston that the entire nation can enjoy. A part of the local Patriots Day holiday, Monday marks the 120th running of the course, which was extended to 26.2 miles in 1924. The first course was only 24.5 miles, when 15 participants ran through the Boston area in 1897. This year 30,000 runners will participate, and elite runners will compete for over $800,000 in prize money.

The marathon is an huge event in Boston, and locally WBZ will provide coverage starting at 7 a.m. Eastern until 3 p.m. Coverage of the competitive race can be viewed on NBC Sports Network, or online on NBC Sports Live Extra or BAA.org.
