On Friday evening, the Atlanta Braves will play their first game of the new season when they host the Kansas City Royals in Georgia.
The Braves have made a lot of moves over the last week to finalize their roster for Opening Day.

Before Friday’s game, the Braves announced that they had made a roster decision on Brett Wisely.
MLB Trade Rumors wrote: “Braves Designate Brett Wisely For Assignment”
Wisely is coming off a season where he appeared in 26 games for the San Francisco Giants (and Braves).
He batted .185 with one home run, 10 RBI’s, five runs (and one stolen base).

Wisely was picked in the 15th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
He spent the first two and a half seasons of his career with the Giants.
In 2024, the 26-year-old batted .238 with four home runs, 31 RBI’s, 25 runs (and two stolen bases).

Wisely has batted .214 with seven home runs, 49 RBI’s, 40 runs and five stolen bases over 168 career games.
He had been claimed by the Braves in September before the latest move (on Wednesday).
The Atlanta Braves wrote (on September 18): “The #Braves today claimed INF Brett Wisely off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred LHP Aaron Bummer to the 60-day injured list.”

The Braves are coming off a down year where they were the fourth-place team in the National League East with a 76-86 record.
They missed the MLB playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season.
That said, the Braves won the World Series Championship in 2021 (over the Houston Astros).
