The Atlanta Braves are currently taking on the New York Yankees in a weekend series.

The Yanks took game one of the series by a score of 3-2, and Saturday’s game features a strong pitching matchup between Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale. At the moment of me producing this piece, the Yankees lead the Braves 3-2 headed into the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Chris Sale was called for a balk, which allowed a Yankees runner to score. As a result, Braves manager Walt Weiss took exception to the ruling and was tossed from the game.

It’s the first time as the Braves manager that Walt Weiss has been ejected from a game.

Here are some reactions from across social media to the Walt Weiss decision:

@mdestefano14 wrote: “Walt Weiss is wishing he didn’t challenge that HBP call”
@taustin_24 wrote: “HP umpire Dan Merzel calls Sale for a balk that forces home Jones and gives the Yankees their lead back. Sale came off the mound furiously pleading his case, then ATL manager Walt Weiss tried to do the same and wound up getting tossed.”
Walt Weiss totally got his money’s worth following the ejection, and then, walking into the dugout, he emphatically threw his hat.
@TheDailyBraves: “Walt Weiss needs 154 more ejections to tie Bobby Cox.”
@sportsmatters: “Not sure which surprises me more — how terrible this home plate umpire in New York is, or the fact that Walt Weiss finally got upset enough to get tossed.”
@hallofgoodpod wrote (in hilarious fashion): “After learning he only had 44% of the Hall of Pretty Good vote, Walt Weiss decided to take his anger out on the umpires, and he has been EJECTED from the game. Walt Weiss is not happy about how things are going, and it’s affecting his behavior on the job.”

Looking at the Braves/Walt Weiss this Season

This is Walt Weiss’s first season managing the Braves.

He previously managed the Colorado Rockies for seven seasons before joining the Braves coaching staff and then taking over for Brian Snitker, who stepped down last season.

Atlanta has fared very well in Weiss’s first season with the club, as they are leading the NL East by  8.5 games with a 70-46 record. The Braves are 39-20 at home and 31-26 on the road this season.

It’s been a fairly surprising season too for Atlanta, which came into the season with a lot of injuries and on the heels of a disappointing 2025 season.
